Canyoning à Montpellier Et Dans L'Hérault En Occitanie

Canyoning Season 2021

Canyoning season 2021

That’s it, the canyoning season has resumed since the beginning of May. It is therefore off again in 2021 for aquatic courses in Hérault, Gard, Lozère and more generally in Occitania.

It is true that the beginning of May was a bit complicated with the heavy rains on Monday, May 9th. We had to cancel a few canyon trips that were planned in the days that followed, but once the week had passed, we were able to switch to other canyons.

Indeed, there is always a craze for the Devil’s Canyon which is located near Saint-Guilhem le Désert and therefore close to Montpellier, however, the water levels are still too high. We therefore had to fall back on other canyons such as the Rec Grand canyon in Caroux or the Ravin des Arcs canyon. It was therefore an opportunity to take advantage of this very pretty canyon nestled in the heart of Lamalou which has its source in the bowels of Pic Saint-Loup.

Canyon of the Ravin des Arcs near Montpellier

Close to Montpellier and this is one of the hikes popular with Montpellier residents. The periods when it is possible to do this canyon can be counted on the fingers of the hand. Indeed, it is necessary to have heavy rains a few days before going there. This allows the Saint-Loup peak and therefore the Lamalou to soak up water. So the canyon is interesting. It is usually in spring or autumn with the Cevennes episodes that we find in our region. You can discover a magnificent splash zip line, as well as a beautiful introduction to abseiling.

Rec Grand Canyon near Béziers

On the side of the Haut Languedoc regional park, we can mention the Rec Grand canyon near Béziers. We can consider this canyon as being the little brother of the Llech canyon in the Eastern Pyrenees. Slides and more slides. To do with family or friends, it is a perfect canyon to get a taste of Llech or quite simply to enjoy the discovery of canyoning. It is therefore at Caroux that we have an appointment for this canyon.

Canyoning at the Orgon waterfalls in the Cévennes

Canyon of the waterfalls of Orgon in the Cévennes near Mont Aigoual in the Gard For those who want a little more sensations and technicality, the spring period lends itself very well to the discovery of the canyon of the waterfalls of Orgon in the Cévennes, near from Mont Aigoual. This is ideal to practice in the spring when there is still water in order to enjoy its beautiful waterfalls and the legendary ejectable slide. End of June – beginning of July, the course starts to run out of water. We will have to wait for some Cévennes rains in September to make it worth going there again.

Tapoul Canyon in the Cévennes

For the most motivated departing from Montpellier or those who are in the Cévennes, it is essential to test the canyon of Tapoul near the small village of Rousses. It is in Lozère that we go to discover one of the pearls of the Cévennes. This canyon brings together the main workshops of the discipline. Jumps, abseiling, slides, passages in casings, zip line splash. There is a beautiful canyon atmosphere that can be very sporty with good water levels. Better to be comfortable in an aquatic environment. In short, this is one of the canyons to do in Occitania.

Canyon du Diable near Montpellier

Otherwise, for a discovery of canyoning, there is also the possibility of practicing aquatic hiking. But make no mistake, it is just as fun as canyoning. At the Devil’s Canyon, you can expect jumps of up to 8 meters, rappelling, whitewater swimming and a splash zipline. This canyon offers two parts to do: the upper part and the lower part. Aquatic and fun activity par excellence. And this 30 minutes from Montpellier.

In short, there is plenty to do canyoning in much of Occitanie around Hérault, Gard and Lozère. Of course there are other very interesting canyons in the other departments. You have to go to the Pyrenees Orientales to feast. The Llech canyon is a very good example.

In any case, if you want to discover the canyons around Montpellier, it’s here.
